Sensitive Conversations: Acceptance

20227255_1752720774745541_868886516_nI was chatting with a new friend who is on a journey similar to mine.  We talked about how the people in our lives reacted to us telling them about our gifts.  I know, right?  As if embracing your spiritual gifts isn’t hard enough, now you have to tell others.

You partly want to share your newly discovered abilities because you are so relieved that you aren’t crazy.  You also want to tell those close to you because, once you get past the fear, it’s kind of neat.  You finally feel like your life makes sense.  You might even feel like you’ve found your life’s purpose and you want to shout it from the rooftops.  You really just want to share your new journey with someone you trust.  But, then you realize that when you tell others that you can see and feel things that most can’t, they will most likely think you are nuts.

When you step out of the Psychic Closest you’ll have mixed reviews.  If everyone runs to you with open arms and embraces your gifts, you are the rare, lucky one.  Unfortunately, it’s very possible that at least one person in your family and friend group will get mad (for some unknown reason), another might be scared, another will most likely look at you as if they don’t know who you are anymore and another person could possibly turn their back on you.  So, be prepared to feel alone but, know that you aren’t the only one.

You will want to find others like you.  You are just craving people who will believe in you and understand what you’re talking about.  You are looking for acceptance.  You don’t have to go to a spiritualist church to find it.  You don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars to join a class or an online group to get it.  Remember, you have a gift.  Use it!  Follow your intuition.  Go ahead and search online and read books (that’s what I did and continue to do) but, if something or someone doesn’t feel right, it most likely isn’t.  Besides people with spiritual gifts are everywhere.  I’m just one of many, just like you.  Remember, you’ll find the people you’re supposed to find.  Who knows?  You might find a spiritually gifted person living just down the street from you.

Sensitive Conversations: Fear

Along my journey, I’ve learned that I’m definitely not the only one on the path to understanding my spiritual experiences and gifts.  There are lots of people out there struggling with the “what do I do now?” question lurking in their heads.  Most if not all of them are afraid to embrace their gifts let alone believe in them.  I don’t blame them.  Truly taking on your spiritual abilities is scary and there are a lot of unknowns.  After many talks with others like me, I’ve realized that there are many of you who might want to know how I handled the common fears you might be having about exploring your spiritual gifts.  So, I’ve narrowed it down to a few of the top concerns and I’ll tell you how I approached each one myself.

What if people think I’m crazy?  Do your best not to worry about what others think.  No matter what, there will always be people who have negative things to say.  Try to only be concerned about the people who matter most, family and close friends.  Feel them out before telling them about your gifts by asking them their opinions on famous psychic mediums.  Then tell them one by one, when it feels like the right time.  Remember, your intuition will always lead you in the direction you’re meant to go.

How will my gift affect my family?  The good news is you get to decide how it will affect your family.  You can embrace your gift without going out into the public.  You don’t have to start a reality show or a blog.  Or you could choose to share your gift with the world but, weigh the pros and cons first.  Take the time to consider any negative outcomes that may arise.  Figure out how you’ll manage each one before stepping out into the world.  After much discussion with my husband and after lots of prayer, we agreed that helping people with my gifts was worth the chance of disapproving reactions.

What do I do with my gift?  This is a personal question that only you can answer.  When considering the opportunities, know that you are not limited to just giving readings.  You can tap into your gifts to create art, be a counselor or a life coach.  Think about becoming a writer or maybe even teach others about embracing their spiritual gifts.  Open your mind to the possibilities.

When contemplating “opening the door” to your spiritual gifts, do your research.  Read about other psychics’ experiences, what they suggest and don’t suggest.  Don’t follow any one person blindly.  Find as many people to learn from as possible.  Don’t forget to pray and meditate.  Ask God for guidance and follow your intuition.  Best of luck on your adventure!
